Alabama Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: Optometrists must complete continuing education every year by September 30. Optometrists not approved to use pharmaceutical agents must complete at least 14 hours. Optometrists approved to use pharmaceutical agents must complete 20 hours, with at least 10 hours in subjects related to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disease of the eye or courses that enhance professional skill and knowledge in optometry. A maximum of 3 hours of practice management are accepted.

Alabama accepts 3 hours in COPE-approved online continuing education courses. Licensees must attest completion on state board forms and are subject to audit. 

Access Optometry is accredited by COPE to provide continuing education for optometrists. These courses are accepted for optometry license renewal by the Alabama Board of Optometry.
