Below are details about optometry continuing education and license renewal in North Carolina.

North Carolina Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: 25 hours are required each calendar year, due by December 31. At least 12 hours must be in courses focused on current practices and advancements in ocular and general pharmacology, diagnosis and therapeutics, or advanced clinical procedures. A maximum of 4 hours can be taken in practice management.

North Carolina accepts 6 hours in online continuing education courses. Licensees must submit documentation of completed hours when renewing and upon request. 

New Licensee Renewals: North Carolina’s CE requirement applies to all registered optometrists annually; new licensees must complete the CE hours required for the year in which they renew.

Access Optometry is accredited by COPE to provide continuing education for optometrists. These courses are accepted for optometry license renewal by the North Carolina State Board of Examiners in Optometry.
