Below are details about optometry continuing education and license renewal in Virginia.

Virginia Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: 20 hours are required every year, due by March 31. A maximum of 2 hours may be in recordkeeping, practice management, or related non-clinical topics. Optometrists certified to use therapeutic pharmaceutical agents (TPA) must complete at least 10 of the required hours in areas such as ocular and general pharmacology, diagnosis and treatment of the human eye and its adnexa, or new clinical techniques and procedures. A licensee may also include up to 2 hours of training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Virginia accepts 10 hours in approved online continuing education courses. Licensee must attest completion on state board forms and are subject to audit. 

Access Optometry is accredited by COPE to provide continuing education for optometrists. These courses are accepted for optometry license renewal by the Virginia Board of Optometry.
