Below are details about optometry continuing education and license renewal in Iowa.

Iowa Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: 50 hours are required every two years, due by June 30 of each even-numbered year. At least 28 of the 40 hours must be in clinical optometry education, with a minimum of 14 hours in each of two approved clinical categories. No more than 6 hours may be in practice management or non-clinical topics. 2 hours is required in Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Identification. Current CPR certification is required and must be completed in person through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or an equivalent organization.

Iowa accepts 5 hours in COPE-approved online continuing education courses. Licensees must submit proof of completion with their renewal application and are subject to audit.

Access Optometry is accredited by COPE to provide continuing education for optometrists. These courses are accepted for optometry license renewal by the Iowa Board of Optometry.
