California Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: 40 to 50 hours are required every two years, due by the last day of the licensee’s birth month. Non–TPA licensed optometrists must complete 40 hours. Optometrists with TPA certification must complete 50 hours, with at least 35 hours in therapeutic pharmaceutical agents and ocular disease management. Glaucoma-certified optometrists must complete 10 hours in glaucoma-specific topics, which count toward the 35 therapeutic hours.

California accepts 25 hours in COPE-approved online continuing education courses. Licensees must submit proof of completion with their renewal application and are subject to audit.

Access Optometry is accredited by COPE to provide continuing education for optometrists. These courses are accepted for optometry license renewal by the California State Board of Optometry.
