 Below are details about optometry continuing education and license renewal in Texas.

Texas Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: 32 hours are required every two years, due by license end date. 24 hours must be in the Diagnosis or Treatment of Ocular Disease, 2 hours in Professional Responsibility, and 1 hour in Human Trafficking. Optometrists holding therapeutic glaucoma (TG) certification must also complete 2 hours in controlled substances, and optometrists who prescribe opioids must complete 2 hours of opioid-specific education.

Texas accepts 16 hours in approved online continuing education courses. Licensees must report their CE hours through the Board’s CE tracking system (CE Broker) at the time of renewal, and the renewal application will not be processed unless the required hours are documented.
