Below are details about optometry continuing education and license renewal in Maryland.

Maryland Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: 36 to 50 hours are required every two years, due by the license expiration date. Non-certified and DPA-certified optometrists must complete 36 hours of approved continuing education every two years, including 6 hours in diagnostic optometry for DPA-certified licensees. TPA-certified Optometrists must document 50 hours every two years, of which 30 hours must be in Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents and related clinical content. Licensees must have current CPR certification and verify it if requested by the Board. 

Maryland accepts 30 hours in online continuing education courses. Licensees must submit proof of completion with their renewal application and are subject to audit. 

New Licensee Renewals: For licensees who did not apply within a year of graduation and have held their license for less than two years, continuing education hours will be prorated for their first renewal based on the license issuance date.

Access Optometry is accredited by COPE to provide continuing education for optometrists. These courses are accepted for optometry license renewal by the Maryland Board of Examiners in Optometry.
