Below are details about optometry continuing education and license renewal in Hawaii.

Hawaii Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: Non-therapeutically certified optometrists must complete 32 hours every two years, due by December 31. Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agent (TPA) certified optometrists must complete 36 hours of continuing education in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular and systemic disease.

Hawaii accepts 8 hours in approved online continuing education courses for non-therapeutic licensees and 9 hours for TPA licensees. Licensees must submit proof of completion with their renewal application and are subject to audit. 

First Time Renewal: If initially licensed during the first year of the biennium, 16 hours are required; if licensed during the second year of the biennium, no hours are required for the first renewal.

Access Optometry is accredited by COPE to provide continuing education for optometrists. These courses are accepted for optometry license renewal by the Hawaii Board of Optometry.
