Below are details about optometry continuing education and license renewal in Alaska.

Alaska Optometry Continuing Education Requirements: Optometrists must complete 40 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. CE must include at least 24 hours in ocular pathology or pharmacology. Within the total 40 hours, the Board requires documented education related to the use and prescription of pharmaceutical agents and the injection of nontopical therapeutic pharmaceutical agents, when applicable to the licensee’s scope of practice. No more than 3 hours of practice management may be applied.

Alaska accepts 10 hours of online continuing education courses. Licensees must maintain documentation of all completed CE courses and submit verification upon renewal.

New Licensee Renewals: New licensees must complete prorated continuing education based on the length of time licensed during the renewal period.

Access Optometry is accredited by COPE to provide continuing education for optometrists. These courses are accepted for optometry license renewal by the Alaska Board of Examiners in Optometry.
